Additional Careless in Red: A Novel Information

In her most eagerly anticipated novel yet, Elizabeth George brings back Scotland Yard's Thomas Lynley to investigate a ruthless crime.

After the senseless murder of his wife, Detective Superintendent Thomas Lynley retreated to Cornwall, where he has spent six solitary weeks hiking the bleak and rugged coastline. But no matter how far he walks, no matter how exhausting his days, the painful memories of Helen's death do not diminish.

On the forty-third day of his walk, at the base of a cliff, Lynley discovers the body of a young man who appears to have fallen to his death. The closest town, better known for its tourists and its surfing than its intrigue, seems an unlikely place for murder. However, it soon becomes apparent that a clever killer is indeed at work, and this time Lynley is not a detective but a witness and possibly a suspect.

The head of the vastly understaffed local police department needs Lynley's help, though, especially when it comes to the mysterious, secretive woman whose cottage lies not far from where the body was discovered. But can Lynley let go of the past long enough to solve a most devious and carefully planned crime?

What Customers Say About Careless in Red: A Novel:

Too long, too many characters, too many endless meaningless descriptions, too boring. I gave it 1 star because you have to give at least one. And after 721 pages we still don't know who killed Santo or why. Otherwise, it would be no stars. The most boring book I have ever read. Towards the end we get a semi-confession, but like the rest of the book it is too long and meaningless and comes to nothing. DON'T BUY THIS BOOK.

This most recent offering in the series focused on Inspector Lynley of Scotland Yard is one of the best. It combines the stories of three different families and their lives on the Cornwall coast in a way that captures the reader. In addition there is the ongoing trauma of the life of the Inspector as he battles with the conflict between grief over the loss of his wife and his dedication to his profession. The connection between all of the character is the death of Santor Kerne.

Great novel, i enjoy the novels more than the bbc series, although that is wonderful as well.

Ms. How many times can the same things be said in different words.I just got to the point where I no longer cared who did it.The book's saving grace is that annoying, whining cow Helen is history. It's much too long with much too much being said. The venerable Thomas Lynley & Sgt.

With 200 pages to go, I simply had to put this book down. Havers is one of Elizabeth George's best characters & she doesn't enter this story until over page 270.I found most all the other characters a bore. George is one of my favorite authors.

Barbara Havers can't save this one. I just couldn't take any more of it.Not that it's badly written; she's a strong literary writer. I just found it to be over 700 pages of boring, rhetoric dialogue.

The story. Other than that; the book is awful

Why do authors feel that they simply cannot stick with something that works. George's Lynley/Havers novels. Except for "What Came Before He Shot her" I am a loyal fan of Ms. Just a return to the wonderful stories, characters and plots of her earlier books. After the disappointment of her last book I was looking forward to "Careless in Red" which promised a return to the beloved characters of Thomas Lynley and Barbara Havers. Yes, the characters have returned but the story is far too long, with useless details and ridiculous names. Is that too much for Ms. George's die hard fans to ask for.
